‘Een introspectieve reis naar het mysterie van tijd en liefde’ – WitkowskaVerbunt
Op zondag 22 september 2024 vindt in het cultuurcentrum Hasselt (CCHA) België, de opening plaats van de multimedia tentoonstelling ‘The Dream Vehicle’ door fotografen duo WitkowskaVerbunt. Deze beleving-gerichte tentoonstelling in de grote expositieruimte, laat de bezoeker zich onderdompelen in de sfeervolle en avontuurlijke wereld van het filmische roadtrip-project dat Anna Witkowska en Rob Verbunt begonnen in 2019, met hun rondreizen door de Benelux in een klassieke Volvo.
In The Dream Vehicle gaan de twee op een zoektocht naar een dieper begrip van de volwassen man-vrouw relatie. Een studie naar tijd en liefde waarin zij zelf het object van hun onderzoek worden. De roadtrip als metafoor voor de levensreis, toont Anna en Rob in hun meest poëtische en intuïtieve vorm. Dagelijkse gebeurtenissen worden gedocumenteerd en gestileerd tot visuele beschouwingen over de relaties in het leven, waarbinnen ze elkaars verlangens en angsten onder ogen zien en die vertalen in dromerige verhalen.
Onderweg doorkruisen ze glooiende landschappen, verlaten dorpen, bossen en motels, waar ze zich in elkaars foto’s voegen om hun gevoelens te tonen door middel van landschapskeuze, lichtgebruik en lichaamshouding. In de rollen van zowel fotograaf als model gaat WitkowskaVerbunt in op de universele thema’s van liefde en geluk. De zoektocht van feilbare mensen naar de ideale vorm van zijn, terwijl de tijd onvermijdelijk verstrijkt.
Anna en Rob ontmoeten elkaar in 2018. Beiden afgestudeerd aan de Nederlandse Fotoacademie delen zij hun grote belangstelling voor het zelfportret. Tijdens een eerste gezamenlijke fotoshoot ervaren ze een creatieve explosie die hen doet besluiten voor langere tijd samen te werken. Vanuit hun liefde voor de cinema en de klassieke road trip films stelt Anna voor om op reis te gaan. Impulsief kopen zij online een klassieke Volvo en in de vroege lente van 2019 rijden zij weg.
The Dream Vehicle is een multidisciplinair project bestaande uit fotografie, tekst, film en muziek. Het resultaat van vijf jaren van beeldend onderzoek waarin WitkowskaVerbunt twaalf reizen maakte. In 2023 publiceerde het duo het fotoboek The Dream Vehicle (Uitgeverij Lecturis). In 2024 lanceerden zij
in samenwerking met filmmaker Jesse Immanuel Bom, de film The Dream Vehicle.

‘An introspective journey into the mystery of time and love’ – WitkowskaVerbunt
On Sunday 22 September 2024, the opening of the multimedia exhibition ‘The Dream Vehicle’ by photographer duo WitkowskaVerbunt will take place in the cultural centre Hasselt (CCHA) Belgium. With an introduction by CCHA director Gerhard Verfaillie. This experience-oriented exhibition in the large exhibition space, immerses the visitor in the atmospheric and adventurous world of the cinematic road trip project that Anna Witkowska and Rob Verbunt started in 2019, with their tours through the Benelux in a classic Volvo.
In The Dream Vehicle, the two embark on a quest for a deeper understanding of the adult male-female relationship. A study of time and love in which they themselves become the very object of their research. The road trip as a metaphor for the journey of life, shows Anna and Rob in their most poetic and intuitive incarnations. Everyday events are documented and stylized into visual reflections on the relationships in life, in which they face each other’s desires and fears and translate them into dreamlike stories.
Along the way they cross rolling landscapes, deserted villages, forests and motels, where they literally insert themselves in each other’s photos to show their feelings through choice of scenery, use of light and body posture. In the roles of both photographer and model, WitkowskaVerbunt addresses the universal themes of love and happiness. The search of fallible people for the ideal form of being, while time inevitably passes.
Anna and Rob meet in 2018. Both graduated from the Netherlands Photo Academy, they share a great interest in the self-portrait. During a first joint photo shoot, they experience a creative explosion that makes them decide to work together for a longer period of time. Based on their love for cinema and classic road trip films, Anna suggests going on a trip. Impulsively, they buy a classic Volvo online and drive away in the early spring of 2019.
The Dream Vehicle is a multidisciplinary project consisting of photography, text, film and music. The result of five years of visual research in which WitkowskaVerbunt made twelve journeys. In the show, visitors can immerse themselves in photo works, projections, poetry and film. In 2023, the duo published the photo book The Dream Vehicle (Uitgeverij Lecturis). In 2024, in collaboration with filmmaker Jesse Immanuel Bom, they launched the film The Dream Vehicle.
